Oklahomans with driver’s licenses in Oklahoma will soon have a way to prove they have passed an approved safety course, the state’s Office of Motor Vehicles announced on Monday.
In the meantime, some drivers might have to apply for a license, but that won’t take long because the department is working to get the process ready.
Oklahoma is one of the few states that still requires drivers to pass a licensing course before they can drive, but the department says its doing a better job of that in recent years.
Oklahomas department of transportation has been working with local transportation agencies to get drivers licenses approved by the department, and it is working with Oklahoma State University to offer a licensing exam for drivers.
Mary Fallin signed a law in May allowing anyone who wants to obtain a driver’s license in Oklahoma to do so.
That includes those who want to renew their license.
But there is a catch.
The department says it will take a year to complete the process, but in the meantime anyone who has been issued a license in the state can get one, if they pass the licensing exam.

Fallin has said that her office will be reviewing how it handles licenses issued by other states, and has said she will work with the states transportation departments to ensure all licenses are approved in the right way.
