NCDOT is revoking the personalized license plates that were given to more than 30,000 residents in the Raleigh-Durham metropolitan area this year.
The plates were approved in October after NCDOTS Office of Public Works staff reviewed their security and safety requirements.
The license plate renewals have been in effect since January.
NCDOS spokesperson John O’Brien says the NCDoS will not renew the plates, which will be stored at the NCDC until a new design is selected.
O’Brien also says the plates will be kept at the Raleigh and Durham Regional Departments until a redesign is completed.
The new design will be made available to residents, and residents will be able to request a new plate if they have been issued a plate already.
