A new Illinois license plate for a car with a hunting licence plate has been unveiled.
The new plate, with the words “HUNTER”, was announced by the Illinois Department of Transportation in a press release Monday.
The plate was introduced last month, after the department received complaints from some drivers about having their licence plates obscured by a hunting or sporting license plate.
In an effort to reduce the chances of confusion, the department has asked drivers to add a disclaimer to their licence plate, which will be displayed on the license plate when the car is registered in the state.
“I think it’s great, and I think it will make it more obvious to drivers that the vehicle has a hunting/sporting license plate,” said Jeff D’Elia, the head of the Illinois Division of Motor Vehicles.
“This will be an additional deterrent to people who are in the area who may not realize that they are being followed by the police.”
The plate is expected to be available for purchase by the end of April.
